ULTIXIM (Cefixime) is a cephalosporin antibiotic (3rd generation). Cephalosporins impede bacteria to synthesize their surrounding wall, causing them to break and die. There are different types of cephalosporins, each one of which treats a different type of infection. Thus, it is not always possible to change one type of cephalosporin for another one. Cephalosporins are used to treat infections in various parts of the body and they have a strong action against enterobacteria H, influenza and gonorrhea.
Used to treat infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, and urinary tract, caused by bacteria sensitive to this medication:
· Respiratory tract infections, such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis and pneumonia
· Acute otitis media (middle ear infection)
· Non complicated urinary infections
Cefixime should be used with caution in patients with history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis.
